Kapristo Farm, Golden BC
Kapristo Farms is an organic market garden south of Golden B.C.
Golden is outside of the Canadian Rockies, not too far from Banff which, IMHO, is the most beautiful place on Earth. It is an excellent addition to any trip to Banff or Jasper and is an outdoor lover’s paradise in a growing town nestled in the mountains. It kinda reminded me of Fairfax, CA.
Kapristo grows year-round in their passive temperature controlled greenhouse [1/2 underground, 1/2 above ground], hoop tunnels, and in the field. The food is SO abundant and delicious. Tammy, the owner, uses her animals for pets, food, and compost.
I was there August 22nd - 24th and stayed in the new 16’ bell tent. It is really comfortable, spacious, and sturdy. I loved it. I will definitely get a few for my land.
We picked basil & green beans, cleaned, opened the market stand, cleaned the bunny cages, and discussed some ideas she has for extending her glamping and farm hand projects. She has 2 pit bulls, Storm and Baxter, who protect the animals. She has bunnies, a cat, turkeys, ducks, chickens [some just hatched new babies!], and 2 new mouser kittens who are getting used to the barn and learning how to take care of rodents.
She is looking for help to keep the farm producing and to set up her glamping sites. She has so much knowledge and is so passionate about the farm. It’s very taxing work….we worked hard each day and went to bed exhausted. I slept with my bear spray, too….even though Tammy said Grizzly Bears would never harm me. :D
